the Chin's residence,Koy Nam and See Khem's hospitality was indisputable.Luis Coronado

played "Father Christmas" and guests were entertained by RCRC Resident Singer Ron Perreira.

"It was definitely a night of fun, fellowship and new friendships – and an excellent way to close the year!" reports Sigrid Zialcita.

The customary visit by RCRC Rotarians and Rotaractors to the Red Cross Home of the handicapped was organized on Saturday 10 December.

In total, 4 rotarians and 7 rotaractors were present including President Aaron, PP Ron, PP Percy, Rtn Jeffrey and his wife Susan. Rtr Yida posed as Santa Claus with PP Ron leading the caroling session which was joined by all the residents and family members who came to celebrate the event.

USA Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar talks at Lunch Meeting

On Tuesday, December 6^th, Andrew Barrows,a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from Tampa, FL, USA made a presentation to the club.He represented the Rotary Club of Tampa-Hyde Park District 6890 which was being hosted by the Rotary club of Serangoon Garden Orchard in Singapore.Andrew played college baseball, competed in triathlons, worked for Lehman Brothers in NYC and awarded with a Bachelors degree in Finance, Juris Doctorate (law degree) and Masters of Business Administration. Back in the USA, Andrew was highly involved in his community where he taught financial literacy to high school children, advocated for children in the dependency system and had taken on the role of big brother for a teenager to name a few. Andrew was the recipient of the 2011 Stetson Law Public Service Fellowship Award. Reported by Sigrid Zialcita

October is the month of celebration

Jimmy The "Unsung Hero" of Dyslexics !

We celebrate the outstanding success of our very own PP Jimmy Daruwalla,who received the inaugural Community Champion Award and a prize of 10,000 Singapore Dollars donated by the State Bank of India and tabla,an English language weekly largely catering to the Indian community of Singapore,for his tireless effort in founding and growing the Dyslexia Association of Singapore.Dubbed as the "unsung hero of dyslexics," Dr.Daruwalla,the President of The Dyslexia Association of Singapore(DAS),together with a group of friends and Rotarians,initiated the founding of the association as a Community Service Project of Rotary Club of Raffles City.

It was in July 1989 that the Rotary Club of Raffles City first proposed the forming of a charitable organization dedicated to helping dyslexics in Singapore. This specific learning difference that affects reading, writing and spelling was virtually unheard of in Singapore then and many dyslexic children were suffering in painful silence.The DAS was registered in October 1991.Over the last twenty years the Association has grown into a highly vibrant social enterprise benefiting the lives of thousands of dyslexics in Singapore in keeping with its mission and goal:

Rwanda's economy suffered heavily during the 1994 Genocide, with widespread loss of life, failure to maintain the infrastructure, looting and neglect of important cash crops. This caused a large drop in GDP and destroyed the country's ability to attract private and external investment.The economy has since strengthened, with per-capita GDP (PPP) estimated at $1,284 in 2011, compared with $416 in 1994.Major export markets include China, Germany and the United States.The economy is managed by the central National Bank of Rwanda and the currency is the Rwandan franc; in June 2010, the exchange rate was 588 francs to the United States dollar.Rwanda joined the East African Community in 2007 and there are plans for a common East African shilling, which could be in place by 2012.

DG's Visit - Memorable One !

The month of September marked the highest point in fellowship and club's activities in President Aaron's tenure so far with the a highly memorable visit by DG Zainie Abdul Aucasa and First Lady Kalimah. "Members were in a relaxed mood and enjoyed the evening with PP Ron's melodious rendition of Mona Lisa, Gerald planning a night time Car-rally in November and Jeffrey declaring that he would be ready to be our President in two years' time when he retires." writes Nidhi Swarup

The Singapore Cricket Club had arranged a sumptuous buffet spread as we got ready to welcome DG Zainie Abdul Aucasa & First Lady Kalimah. President Aaron Tan, AG Rustom Ghadiali & spouse PP Shirin Ghadiali welcomed them.

President Aaron Tan specially welcomed PDG Dr Philbert Chin, Rotarians and their spouses and Rotaractors who were present to extend a warm welcome to the DG. In his speech Pres.Aaron thanked the members for all their good projects over the years and emphasized that fellowship was equally important for a healthy club.

Treasurer, PP Kaka Singh informed members that RCRC is in a healthy state with a $14,000 surplus. RI dues had been paid on time. Moreover, he urged those members who had not paid their club dues to do so at the earliest.

Club Service Director Rtn Sigrid Zialcita spread a lot of cheer amongst members when she shared her plans to organize more fellowship events like the upcoming Hari Raya Celebration at a Turkish Restaurant and others in the pipeline. For these she had tabled a budget of $14,000. She intends to line-up two speakers a month and sincerely hopes to see good support from members by attending the regular lunch meetings more often!

In the absence of Community Service Director, Thomas Graf President Aaron reported that the committee planned to continue it's Annual Comm Service visits on festive occasions to Red Cross Home, Jamiyah Home, Sunlove Home and this also to NTUC Rotary Silver Circle Centre. Moreover, a contribution of $4,000 will be made to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to support two scholarships for students in the Diploma of Psychology and Community Service. A budget of $12,000 was proposed for these.

A target of $50,000 has been set to raise funds primarily to aid Sunlove Home & Business Times Budding Artists Fund. Moreover, a token sum of $5,000 will be donated to DAS & another contribution will be made to NTUC Rotary Silver Circle Centre when more details are available.

Hon Secretary, Rtn Corina Lai was quite surprised when she was invited to present her report. Nonetheless, she was quick to report the statistics regarding membership, age profile, no.of male & female members and the no.of members who were in the club for 0-2years, 2-5years, 5-10years, 10 years or more. It was a pleasure to note that of our 50 members, about 40 members belonged to the last category.

Vocational Service Director, Chow Nam Kit shared his enthusiasm with members when he spoke about organizing Career Guidance for students, Computer Graphics Training, a hands-on project related to Dental care etc etc.

Chairman, Membership Committee, PP David Ong shared that his committee was successful in bringing in three members recently. Having served as the Committee Chair for .... Years he thanked his committee members, PP Vincent Chen & ... For their continued support.

Ngee Ann Poly Rotaract Club Secretary, Darryl received a round of applause when he informed RCRC that his club had 270 members. He was quick to add that some were inactive and his club intends to involve more members in their activities and through Social Media they had garnered the support of 300 followers.

Rotaract Club of Raffles City President, Pei Yan reported that her club had 27 members and are seriously considering an increase in membership. She shared that her club had played an active role in the recent Jamiyah Home visit during Hari Raya by preparing, Zakats, Arranging Oranges and the various songs that were performed by her club members and the residents found truly enjoyable.

In the absence of New Generations' Director, Rtn Mark Davis, Rtn Brian Tan promptly provided an update on the activities of the Rotaract & Interact clubs.

In his address to the club, DG Zainie thanked members for their warm welcome and the level of vibrancy he felt in the club, he was confident that RCRC could induct more members by setting a target of 70 members. Although he was suggesting an average of four new members per club in the district, he shared that strong clubs like RCRC could easily achieve a higher target. A similar endorsement came from our very own Hon. Member PDG Dr Philbert Chin who ranked RCRC as amongst the top-five clubs in the District.

DG was very kind in praising the efforts of our Rotaractors and Interactors. Moreover, he supported the efforts of the various Directors in their plan for the current Rotary Year.

In his speech,President Aaron stressed that, "RCRC remains committed to continue the good work of our members, with “Service Above Self”. In each Avenue of Service, our dedicated BOD are committed to further enhance & improve the life of the less fortunate and the under privileged communities and to make the world a better place to live."

The club has always been the champion of diversity and multi culturalism in a cosmopolitan SINGAPORE.September was the month of Shawal in which the Muslims all over the world celebrated the end of a Month Long Ramadhan in which they fasted and performed intensive religious activities.To mark the celebration,the Club organized a Fellowship Dinner at a Turkish Restaurant at Kampong Glam,the hub of Muslim Culture in Singapore.It was indeed a memorable occasion in which 40 Rotarians,family members and partners attended.Our Community Service Director Thomas Graf in fact brought his mother,who was on vacation in Singapore,to share the joy of our fellowship.PP Gerald Lim was at his height soothing guests especially when some had their dinners served rather very late as the restaurant was very short handed on that busy Saturday night.PP David and President Aaron played real host helping out in the service which truly demonstrated the spirit of "Service Above Self."

Regretably,we could not get PP Ron Pereira to sing Mona Lisa this time since he had his fish served to the very last."I actually had the best deal"said Ron.

Singapore remains world's top

This was the message articulated by our guest speaker Mr.Anh Thuan,Assistant Manager at the Conventions and Meetings Division and the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau,at our luncheon meeting on 20th September.

Mr.Thuan shared his insights on what made the city state consistently among the world’s most preferred destinations for business events.He introduced the latest and upcoming developments that would continually rejuvenate travelers’ experiences in Singapore.

We also had some visitors from The Rotary club of Jurong Town who are organizing a major Conference, "Age Friendly Workforce Asia" on 3rd – 4th November this year, to raise the preparedness of business and professional leaders in Singapore to the reality and challenges of the Singapore Re-employment Act which becomes law on 1st Jan 2012. The Ministers of State for Health and Manpower will be attending as panelists along with a high profile group of speakers and panelists sharing their experience. Kimpton mentioned that there will be an exhibition on aging issues with particular focus on aged friendly work, lifestyle and health related matters. All the funds raised will be lodged with the Foundation of Rotary Clubs (Singapore) Ltd, in the RCJT Happiness Fund ; and shall be used through a process of application by all Interact and Rotaract Clubs in Singapore, for Inter generational projects to aid the needy aged seniors in Singapore. -Reported by Sigrid Zialcita

Past President of our Club David Chin spoke at the lucncheon meeting about his new role as

the Executive Director at the Singapore Maritime Foundation.(SMF)

The Foundation was established to serve as the link between the public and private sectors in

the maritime industry. SMF works in partnership with the maritime players to drive initiatives,

attract and nurture talent and raise public awareness of the Singapore maritime sector. These

efforts are in line with the vision to make Singapore a leading international maritime centre.

I wish to thank all those who have had an invisible hand influencing the decision of the club.I am fully aware that many of you were involved in this.However,I wish to express my gratitude to former President David Lee,President Aaron Tan and Mr.Nitin Doshi for inviting me to the club as Guest Speaker and thus rekindled my passion for the organization I addressed as Guest Speaker many years ago in the early nineties.

Cricket Club Banquet staff at the Gilmour Room were taken by surprise when the three tables they had set for the lunch meeting were insufficient to accomodate the huge turnout of 27 Rotarians and 2 guests - Visiting Rotarian Luis Coronado (Rotary Club Kaarst Germanay) and Messr.Graham Rhodes (Hong Kong),Guest of Rtn Jeffrey Chan.I was almost tempted to try out the famous chicken curry of Cricket club served along with other dishes and delicious chocolate cake dessert only to be reminded by Jaya Prakash that I was actually fasting.

Remembering Switzerland

When talking about Switzerland,we will immediately think of it as a financial hub,Swiss Alps,Red Cross,Geneva Agreemnt and at the very least the Swiss Knife.Little do we realize that this small country which became independent on 12 September 1848,has a very rich history and tradition.This was revealed by Rtn Thomas Graf,our Community Service Director,during his presentation which was the highlight of the meeting.

Since 1848, the Swiss Confederation has been a federal state of relatively autonomous cantons, some of which have a history of confederacy that goes back more than 700 years, arguably putting them among the world's oldest surviving republics.

During the French Revolutionary Wars, French armies enveloped Switzerland during their battles against Austria. In 1798 Switzerland was completely overrun by the French who turned it into the united Helvetic Republic, effectively abolishing the cantons. Having been imposed by a foreign power, and relying on French troops to survive, the Helvetic Republic was highly unpopular and encountered severe economic and political problems and uprisings. Its new constitution following not Swiss sentiment but the political philosophy of the French Revolution. Swiss resistance constitution reflects a wider European discontent with the French Revolution and conflicting Swiss notions of liberty and freedom.

In 1803, Napoleon's Act of Mediation partially restored the sovereignty of the cantons, and the former tributary and allied territories of Aargau, Thurgau, Grisons, St. Gallen, Vaud and Ticino became cantons with equal rights.

The Congress of Vienna of 1815 fully re-established Swiss independence and the European powers agreed to recognize permanent Swiss neutrality.

Led by President Aaron Tan,RCRC delegation comprising of PPs Dr.Jimmy Daruwalla,Dr.Chin Koy Nam and David Ong,attended the 39th induction cereomony of RC Makati North at The Peninsula Manila Hotel Makati City on 13 July 2011.As expected,they received the undisputable Filipino Hospitality Par Excellence.Great fellowship,delicious food,fantastic entertainment and above all highly meaningful visits to the sites of the two joint Community Service Projects.

"The Feeding Program at the Francisco Benitez Elementary School is an outstanding project which has produced tangible results," says President Aaron.With a very clear Vision of becoming," A High Performing School whose learners are empowered with life-long skills imbued with strong moral values dedicated to serve GOD,country and fellowmen," the school achieved more than 80 % passes in its academic record last year.In fact one student by the name of Lorenzo Miguel B. Alarcon tops the 260 graduates of the school this year.He has been a consistent honor pupil since grade one and excels both in academic and extra curricular activities.

In a recent interview with the Bulletin Editor, President Aaron stressed the importance of fellowship as the critical factor in the growth of the club.”My earnest intention this Rotary Year is to bring our fellowship to the highest level thereby making RCRC the most reputable club for fellowship in Singapore .” says President Aaron. “We have many active seasoned Rotarians plus a good blend of new, younger and more internationally diverse Rotarians who joined us recently. We need to tap their time, expertise and spirit of volunteerism in order to accelerate the growth of the club. To do this, we need to be very inclusive, make everyone feel part of the RCRC family as well as harness the fellowship that our club is reputed for. Fellowship is the lubricant that will smoothen the rotation of the Rotary wheel.” stresses President Aaron. He continues, “This year’s theme for Rotary International is ‘Reach Within to Embrace Humanity'. I therefore urge every Rotarian in our club to reach within to reach out to embrace humanity; with stronger bonding and fellowship, we can organize projects that will have far greater impact on our community this year.”

The first meeting on 5th July was a great booster to this year’s RI theme. Our guest speaker Zileena Doctor gave a talk on I-India -Street Child Project in India. It was a great turn out. Three tables were filled up ! Everyone present seemed upbeat as reflected by a substantial sunshine collection of $550! The club donated the proceeds to I-India – which was graciously accepted by Zileena Doctor .

Rotary Visit to Bozhou by PP Vincent Chen
In June 2009 our Rotary Club donated S$52,500 to the Compassion Education Foundation (based in Taiwan) to enable 33 students to attend the 3-year high school programme at Bozhou No. 1 High School. It was a project spearheaded by PP Johnson Tan and Billy Lee, and we had long wanted to visit the school and meet the students.

On 27 Sep 2010, we finally made the visit. Johnson, Billy, Chin Koy Nam and Vincent Chen flew from Shanghai to Fuyang in Anhui Province where we were met by the Foundation’s representatives, Mr & Mrs Tsai Ching Chiang, who had been responsible for selecting the students. We then travelled by MPV for 1-1/2 hours to Bozhou, a town in a rather poor agricultural region best known for growing Chinese medical herbs.
Arriving at Bozhou No. 1 High School at 3 pm, we were welcomed by the Principal, Mr Shi Lei, and his senior staff, as well as Mr Sun Jinlun from the municipal government. China has compulsory free education up to grade 9 or junior high. High school is not free and can be beyond the means of poor families. We learnt that while our donation provided our students (who live in the school) with money for food and incidentals, the school also did its part by waiving school fees and providing free lodging.

Next we set off to visit the homes of two students to give us an idea of the family background of the students we were assisting. In the end, because it took so long to travel on the bumpy rural dirt tracks – almost 2 hours each way – we managed to visit the home of only one student, Huang Ya Nan. Her father was a construction worker and her mother a farmer, and their rural home was small and had only very basic amenities. Clearly they were very poor and Ya Nan could not have gone to high school without a scholarship. But what was impressive was their emphasis on education. On the dimly lit walls of their small living room were neatly pasted the many certificates of scholastic achievements awarded to Ya Nan and her younger brother in primary school and junior high school.

It was 8 pm and very dark when we returned to the school. However all the classrooms were still buzzing. We were told that students typically studied in class until 10 pm each night. After a quick and simple meal in the school canteen, we finally got to meet our students. They were in a class of 50 named the Raffles Pearl Class in recognition of our sponsorship. Johnson and Vincent addressed the class in Mandarin and English respectively – telling them about Rotary and Singapore and encouraging them to study hard and do well in life. What impressed us in the Q & A session was the students’ eagerness to learn about Rotary and Singapore and their English language proficiency – all their questions were asked in English. After the exchange of gifts – Johnson had brought a 4 Way Test plaque for each of them – and a group photo session, it was time to take our leave. As we walked to our MPV, each of us was surrounded by students who actively sought our attention. We were touched by their enthusiasm to learn and their eagerness to engage us in conversation and we were sorry we could not stay longer.

The visit affirmed our belief that our project served a very good cause. The Raffles Pearl Class accounted for more than half of the top 50 students out of the 500 students in the school’s 11th grade. Despite their humble backgrounds, our students have achieved excellent academic results. Clearly our students are very intelligent, diligent and motivated and they certainly deserve the opportunity we give them to attend high school and further the development of their potential.

In an exclusive interview on 31st August 2010 with RCRC Director of Communications, Tengku Indra, Corina Lai who has just celebrated her 10th year as a Rotarian with RCRC, talks about her passion with Rotary work and the joy of service as a veteran Rotarian. This is the first in a series of Chit Chat with RCRC members profiling Rotarians of the Club to capture their thoughts and philosophy about being a Rotarian to build communities and bridge continents.

Tengku: Q. How do you feel about being a Rotarian especially as a member of RCRC?

Corina: I enjoy it! I enjoy the hard work. When I first joined the club ten years ago, I had no idea whatsoever about Rotary. Through the encouragement of PP Jimmy Daruwalla I took this leap of faith to become a Rotarian believing that I could find an avenue to serve the community. It has been ten years now and I have gained so much insight about Rotary. This spurred me to develop a “Welcome Kit for New Members” when I first became the Club Service Director in 2002. I am glad this kit has become an important inducting tool for our new members-unlike me when I started.

Tengku: Q. Rotary is about service to others. Share with us some of the highlights you experienced in serving others so far.

Corina: I get a “real kick” every year when we visit the homes such as the Jamiyah Old Folks Home during Hari Raya and the Red Cross Home at Christmas. Visiting these homes constantly gives me the opportunity to empathise with the residents there. They look innocent and they probably are enjoying the simplest things in life to the fullest – no hand phone, no internet; no face book-simply the basics. And when we visit them we could feel the glow of joy in their faces of being appreciated and cared for. The pleasure of giving - the Zakat, Oranges, Goodie Bags, the sing-along session led by PP Ron and the Rotaractors – all goes to say that we can find the joy of building communities even at the old folks and spastic children homes.

Tengku: Q. Rotary is made up of leaders of leaders. How would you interpret leadership in the context of Rotary?

Corina: To be a leader in Rotary you have to be extra sensitive to others. I am glad –in our club, we respect the leader – no rank. We look at the position of The President as an office-we don’t look at the person holding it. It is just like when you are a passenger in a plane. How the pilot looks like- tall or short -big size or small size- does not matter. You know whoever occupies the cockpit – he has the command and you put the trust in him to take off and land and give you the joy of the flight. It’s the same in Rotary. You put your trust to the office bearer irrespective whether it’s the President or Club Service or International Service etc.etc. You have been elected – we trust you will deliver during the Rotary Year. And it’s a full year flight. So for this year I would say...Great take off Captain David Lee!

Tengku: Q. This year’s Rotary theme is “Building Communities, Bridging Continents.”What is your opinion on this theme especially in the context of multi racial, multi lingual, multi culture and cosmopolitan Singapore?

Corina: I knew you are going to pop out this question sooner or later. Well I was amused when I saw Aravinth all dressed in the Arabic Sheikh Gear, Rtn Karen Tan all dressed in the Japanese Kimono, Richard and I tried to portray a Nepalese outlook at our recent 30th anniversary dinner at the Hilton. It’s not just the costume we wear –it’s more than that-it shows our willingness to embrace change-accept the diversity of this world - look and feel good about it. Building bridges makes sense. Living in a diverse society such as Singapore, we must be culturally sensitive to others and make efforts to learn about other cultures and habits. The fastest way to connect with others is to show your willingness to learn about other cultures and avoid being enthnocentric. Our club is pretty diverse. We have people from different cultures and continents. The best way to attract new members to our club is to demonstrate the richness of our cultural diversity. We need to get new members accepted very fast especially those from a different country or continent. In this sense I would suggest that we adopt a kind of buddy system. Perhaps we could start off a culture where we sit with a different people at different meeting. This would ensure faster integration of our club and prevent the common practice of “the inner circle” and “outer circle” within clubs.

Tengku: Q. what is your wish for RCRC to have greater impact on the community?

Corina: DAS is a very good model of how a Rotary Club could have an impact on the society. It jells the club-gives us a focus and instil that sense of pride for a “Project Well Done!” I wish to see an initiative in our club to do an eco-green project such as “Save the earth campaign”. Recycling...or may be tree planting. May be we can start initiating a tree planting campaign this year with Pres. David Lee to plant a fruit tree under his name ...this practice goes on every year....and ten years from now we can all be proud of the fruits of the labour...a real contribution to eco-green.

Tengku Q. How do you see the future of Rotary?

Corina: Rotary is here to stay. Any organization that has survived more than 100 years will go on. We just need constant infusion of new blood into the organization and ensure we embrace change all the time. As for our club RCRC, I believe we have a good membership size – very diverse with good leadership platform. We have been around for thirty years and we will continue with this journey into the future.

Through the initiative of Rtn Nitin Doshi,we were privileged to have HE Fauzia M. Sana to address the luncheon meeting giving us the latest devastating flood situation in Pakistan.

The flood,which started in late July,is the worst flood in 80 years of Pakistan history resulting
so far in 1600 deaths,2,366 injured and an estimated of 1.2 million houses severly damaged or destroyed.It was reported that over 3 million children were at risk of water borne diseases with more than 500,000 pregnant women living in camps.According to Mrs.Sana,some
8 million people were living under harsh conditions in make shift tents on embankments and
over crowded relief centres.

She urged the world to remain engaged in the reconstruction and rehabilitation drive of Pakistan;and with a note of optimism she said,"I am confident, Insha' ALLAH, Pakistan will overcome this mammoth challenge with determination, grace and dignity."

$200,000 raised for needy kids

THE Rotary Club of Raffles City has donated $100,000 to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and an equivalent amount to the Dyslexia Association of Singapore.

The money was raised from its members and corporations who bought tables for the club's 30th anniversary dinner at the Hilton Hotel last night. Tables went for between $1,500 and $10,000 each.

Rotary Club Raffles City shares the values of Rotary International, an organisation of business and professional leaders who promote service to the community, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and build goodwill and peace.

These values underpinned the club's move in 1989 to reach out to children with dyslexia, a learning disorder, by setting up the Dyslexia Association, the other benefactor of the funds raised last night.

Club president David Lee, a 43-year-old lawyer, said: 'We've read about the plight of needy children in the newspapers, so we decided that this year, we will focus mainly on helping children.

'One of the Rotary Club's goals is to build the community, and children make up an important part of it.'

A Night to Remember !

After months and months of hard preparations by a committee headed by PP.Dr Jimmy Daruwalla,the 30th anniversary celebration (31st Installation) took place at the Grand Ball room of the Hilton Hotel on 13 August 2010.The dinner which was sponsored by Mr.Ong Beng Seng,was graced with the presence of the Guest of Honour Mr.S Dhanabalan,Chairman of Temasek Holdings.Among other dignitaries include His Excellency Ambassador K Kesavapany,District Governor Dr.Sunny Abraham and Spouse Geeta,PDG Philbert Chin,PDG Chris Chen and Spouse Shirley,AG Alex Eow,Special Guest Mr.Patrick Daniel,Editor-in-Chief Singapore Press Holdings and Mr.Fock Siew Wah,Group Chairman PSA Holdings and our very own Charter President Low Siew Joon and Spouse Lana.

In a rare occasion,Rotarians and guests had a lovely luncheon banquet during the weekly lunch meeting on 13 July 2010 in the main hall,away from the usual exclusive gathering at the corner Gilmour Room.It was quite a big turnout among Rotarians with two prominent guests.The setting was a long banquet table completely occupied ala RCRC Fellowship Spirit ! The food was delicious;of course the price was different too!

"A quiet and easy take off !"- Mr.President

President David Lee chaired the first meeting for Rotary Year 2010 / 2011 at the luncheon meeting on 6 July 2010 in a quiet and confident way to build further fellowship in the club. In an interview with Pres.Lee, he emphasized the need for the club to reach out to non-Rotarians as a way to demonstrate our role in society. This is obviously in line with this year RI President’s theme “Building Communities and Bridging Continents.”

PP Johnson Tan Visited Sister Clubs – Greater China

PP Johnson Tan and spouse Juliet attended RC Peninsula HK 34th installation dinner ceremony on 6 July at a private club Yau Yat Chun Club. It was a small gathering (4 tables) comprising of club members, some invited local club Rotarians and a DGN.A simple formal speech by outgoing President David Cheng kicked off the ceremony followed by the board handover and introduction of the new BOD. The club achieved a number of district awards which include an award for the highest membership attendance club in the district. After a short speech to congratulate the club and inviting the members to RCRC 30th anniversary dinner, PP Johnson Tan, on behalf of RCRC, presented a cash donation of S$1,000, to incoming President Dicky, for the club’s community project.

On 9 July PP Johnson Tan hopped over to attend RC Taipei Northeast Rotary Year 2010/2011 First Weekly Lunch chaired by its 2010 /2011 President Wieman. There, he also announced RCRC forthcoming 30th anniversary celebration dinner and similarly extended the invitation to the Club for this event. “A delegation of around 30 Rotarians and spouses are expected to be present at our dinner next month. So members, get ready with your rendition of Mandarin Hits Songs for a really exciting karaoke” said PP Johnson Tan. According to our Rotary Ambassador for N Asia, “Our guests will also be ‘sampling’ the Marina Sands Casino and the Universal Studio when they are in Singapore. So let us be the best host we can ever be” added PP Johnson.
